Child-Focused Adoption Recruitment Across Texas

Overview

The Adoption Recruitment Collaborative team is put in partnership with The Dave Thomas for Adoption Foundation. In 2004, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA) created and launched a model to find families for those children most at risk of aging out of care. In 2017, DTFA initiated an aggressive 12-year scaling plan to achieve full expansion of the model in all fifty states and D.C. by 2028.

To date, the model has been scaled or is scaling in Ohio, Colorado, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah, and Washington.

In Texas, DTFA supports seven Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (WWK) Recruiters placed in three organizations: Arms Wide Adoption Services, Helping Hand Home for Children, and Upbring.  Collectively, these recruiters have helped 406 children find their permanent homes.

During the fiscal year, over 1,200 children aged out of care without a permanent family. We feel strongly that DTFA is well suited to scale the model in Texas so we can avert the negative consequences for youth aging out of care and find permanent, healing, and loving families for all children in need.

If you are looking to get involved or wondering how Wendy’s Wonderful Kids can benefit your community, please contact our DTFA Project Coordinator, Chelsey Castro, ccastro@tacfs.org or you can also attend our DTFA project kick-off on January 24, 2022
