This advanced clinical skills training from WestCoast Children’s Clinic will include an in-depth discussion about the psychological impacts of trauma for youth impacted by sexual exploitation, including an exploration of common dynamics when serving and supporting commercially exploited youth and how these dynamics impact the work and the providers. We will also explore common psychological strategies and defenses, such as: fragmentation, splitting, denial, and projection, including why they happen and how they show up in our work with exploited youth. Finally, we will have a chance to practice CSEC and trauma informed care strategies, including re-considering the stages (cycle) of change and motivational interviewing techniques.
