Join UT Austin’s Texas Institute for Child and Family Wellbeing, the Texas Center for Child and Family Studies, and Healthy Futures of Texas to celebrate three years of the Texas Foster Youth Health Initiative (TFYHI) and connect with other professionals serving youth in child welfare.

TFYHI aims to help youth in foster care feel connected, safe, and empowered to make informed decisions about their sexual health and relationships. This virtual Statewide Meeting will bring together child welfare and other youth-serving professionals to discuss lessons learned and innovative interventions to support the health of youth in care across Texas.

 

Part 1: Celebrating TFYHI

9:00 AM – 9:45 AM

TFYHI partners will present lessons learned from building a statewide network of child welfare organizations, sexual health professionals, foster parents and caregivers, and young adults with lived experience to support the health of youth in care. We will share insights from piloting our THRIVE youth curriculum and promising evaluation data from Brave Conversations and UNHUSHED: Introduction to Sexuality Education for Child Welfare Professionals trainings for caregivers, professionals, and other supportive adults.

 

Part 2: Connecting & Collaborating

10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

After a short break, youth-serving professionals from across the state will convene for networking and professional development related to the health and wellbeing of youth in care. Attendees will be able to select breakout rooms facilitated by experts on the topics below to share resources and discuss challenges and opportunities. Breakout room topics include:

– Inclusive Practices for Sexual Health Education

– Support, Resources, and Connection for Youth Aging Out of Care

– Trauma-Informed Practices for Youth in Care

– Legal Issues Related to Sexual Health Care of Youth in Child Welfare
