Alliance for Our Futures (AFOF) stands with the Selfless Love Foundation as we celebrate how youth impacted by foster care are sharing their experiences and ideas to make the system stronger and more supportive for future generations.
“Foster Youth Voice Month is about empowering young people to be active and engaged in improving the child welfare system. When youth who have experienced foster care are included in creating policies that affect them, they feel valued and everyone benefits from more effective solutions,” said Ted Keyser, Selfless Love Foundation’s executive director and TACFS board member.
Henry, the young man from New York who illustrated this year’s Selfless Love theme t-shirt, wrote, “I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become.” This year, we’ve chosen to acknowledge providers making a difference and the young people who are paving their own way. This month, AFOF is asking youth and caring adults who serve at provider agencies to share positive stories that transcend the often-negative portrayal of youth who age out of care.
